Screed #8
11/12/01
Minutes after our Wednesday (11/7/01) show, the
unsuspecting staff of the Grego, Pruett and the
Boner Show was summoned to the conference room
where we were informed that management had decided
to "change KLOL's direction" and that our services
were no longer needed. We then bagged our head-
phones and we were on the streets in minutes.
Now I get to sleep in instead of getting up at
3:15 am to prepare for a 5:30 to 10:00 am air
shift. I can go to a movie at night and not have to
fear fatigue's effect the next morning. Why I can
even have dinner AND go to a movie! I am actually
free to go out of town on the weekend to visit
friends and family. I can walk my dogs and see
a sunrise first hand. The quality of my life has
suddenly improved.
Here's the down side: I don't get to talk to
you on the radio. I want you to know that I had
a great time doing mornings on Houston radio. I
had a lot of fun on KLOL...21 years altogether and
on behalf of the Pruett family we all want to thank
you for the opportunity to be on your dial. It was
wonderful! Legendary!
Here's an up side: Now that I don't work for a
specific radio station, other stations will be more
willing to air our public service spots. You can
bet I will be knocking on their doors on behalf of
the ranch regularly.
There's another up side: Although I will be
spending a bunch of hours at our family gun store
(I have to work) I will be free to work harder for
the kids and animals at the Stevens and Pruett
Ranch. We look forward to digging in and working
shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure the
little ones are protected and showered with
opportunity.
Life is full of uncertainty. It is predictably
unpredictable. Sometimes it seems that the only
constant is change itself. I think it's so very
cool that since 1980 the mission of the ranch has
NOT changed. I think it's way cool that you have
been able to provide a loving ranch home unaffected
by the shifting winds of negative change. Let us
continue with the good fight. Today is a new day...
a new opportunity to put "self" second and the un-
fortunates first. It's been said before and I am
proud to echo Todd Beamer's call to battle: "Are
you ready? Let's roll!"
